The Mann government in Punjab has taken another big and historic step for the health of the public. Now, in emergency situations like dog bites, people won’t have to pay high fees at private hospitals or run around large government hospitals for treatment. Anti-rabies injections will now be given completely free at all Mohalla Clinics across the state.
This is not just a new service—it is part of the government’s promise that healthcare is every citizen’s right, and the responsibility lies with the government. Until now, this facility was only available at district or sub-division level hospitals. But now, Mohalla Clinics have been strengthened to handle emergency cases too.
In private hospitals, the same anti-rabies injection costs between ₹350 to ₹800 per dose. The full course can cost ₹2000 to ₹4000. But now, the entire treatment will be available for free at Mohalla Clinics.
The Aam Aadmi Party government is also launching a step-by-step free vaccination campaign across the state so that no one misses timely treatment. Currently, there are over 880 Aam Aadmi Clinics operating in Punjab — 565 in villages and 316 in cities. The network is rapidly expanding.
So far, more than 1.3 crore people have benefitted from these clinics, and over 3.7 crore OPD visits have been recorded. During the previous government’s time, the annual OPD count was about 34 lakhs. That number has now increased to 177 lakhs, showing a 4.5 times growth.
These clinics already provide:
These include diagnostics, typhoid tests, HbA1c, hepatitis, dengue, HIV, pregnancy tests, and all types of ultrasound — all free of cost. Now, life-saving injections will also be part of this network.
Among the patients so far:
More than 1.5 crore diagnostic tests have already been done for free, saving people thousands of crores of rupees.
Punjab has become the first state in India to provide free health insurance up to ₹10 lakh for every citizen. Now, no poor person, farmer, laborer, or middle-class family will have to take a loan for hospital treatment — the government will cover the full cost. This insurance is not like private company schemes full of terms and paperwork. This is public insurance, and the premium is paid by the government. In Punjab, treatment is no longer a burden — it is a right, and the Mann government is taking full responsibility for it.
This is not just a health policy — it’s a clear message of honest intent that every Punjabi will get healthcare, whether they live in a village or a city, whether rich or poor. The Mann government has shown that when a government truly wants to serve, healthcare goes beyond just medicines — it becomes a matter of dignity and trust.
Punjab has now become a model for the country, where the government stands with the people — not just on paper, but in real life. This is true service. This is the new Punjab.
